The Charge d’affaires of Afghanistan in Pakistan engaged in discussions with Pakistan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, aiming to resolve the issue of reopening the Torkham border crossing. Pakistan expressed concerns about Afghan forces attempting to establish a border post on Pakistani territory, which led to the border's closure after a recent exchange of fire. Pakistan emphasized its refusal to relinquish its land.
Pakistan's Special Envoy, Asif Durrani, conveyed to the Afghan Charge d’affaires, Sardar Ahmed Shakeeb, that building the border post was seen as an occupation of Pakistani territory. Additionally, Afghan officials were informed that their soil had been used to launch a terrorist attack on Pakistan's border district of Chitral.
The Afghan Charge d’affaires expressed the hardship caused by the closure of the Torkham border crossing for both sides, affecting people and trade. Asif Durrani assured the Afghan diplomat that Pakistan would soon reopen the border.
Despite this, the border remained closed for a third consecutive day, stranding trucks loaded with goods and Afghan nationals traveling to Peshawar for medical treatment or trade.
