Former PPP MPA caught committing electricity theft

The former MPA and prominent figure of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Mumtaz Ali Chang, has been caught in a case of electricity theft at his home.

According to a spokesperson for MEPCO, the former MPA was found involved in electricity theft, and MEPCO has apprehended him in connection with the theft at his residence, where direct connections were illegally installed on a 15-acre farm.

More than 12 ACs were running in the farm house. MEPCO has initiated legal proceedings against Mumtaz Ali Chang in connection with electricity theft. On the other hand, Lahore Electric Supply Company continued its operation against electricity thieves for the third day, during which 248 connections across all circles were found involved in electricity theft.

According to a spokesperson for LESCO, FIRs regarding electricity theft have been registered at relevant police stations, including FIR No. S141 FIRs. In Okara, a LESCO employee involved in electricity theft has also been arrested. Among the connections caught, there were 4 industrial, 6 agricultural, 2 commercial, and 239 domestic connections.

All these connections have been disconnected, and they have been charged for a total of 861,061 units of electricity theft, amounting to over three crore fifty-one lakh rupees.
