Iran reacts strongly to allegations over involvement in Hamas attack on Israel

Iran has refuted baseless allegations that implicated Tehran in Hamas Palestinian group's attacks on Israel.

According to Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Naser Kanaani, "The allegations related to Iran's role are politically motivated." Kanaani emphasized that "The Islamic Republic of Iran does not interfere in the decision-making of any other country, including Palestine."

Hamas, an Iran-supported militant group in Gaza since 2007, launched thousands of rockets at Israel, resulting in casualties on both sides. As of now, more than 1,100 individuals have reportedly died, with Israel reporting 700 casualties and Palestinians confirming 430 deaths.

Iran is among the first countries to praise Hamas's attacks. Iran's government has consistently supported the Palestinian cause in its foreign policy since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Kanaani stated that Palestinians have the "necessary capacity and determination to defend their nation and secure their rights without Tehran's assistance."

Furthermore, Kanaani clarified that discussing Iran's role serves the purpose of diverting public opinion from facts and presenting possible future actions of Israel. The United Nations' permanent mission of Iran also discredited these allegations in a statement issued at night.

An American newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, reported that Iran's security officials assisted Hamas by helping plan the attack on Israel. Senior members of Iran's backed political-military group, Hezbollah, in Gaza and Lebanon, were referenced as well.

According to the report, "Iranian security officials provided support to Hamas's senior leaders in planning the sudden attack on Israel, and the green light for this attack was given during a meeting held in Beirut last Monday."

President Ibrahim Raisi voiced Iran's support for Palestinian self-defense on Sunday and warned that Israel should be held accountable for destabilizing the region.
