Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood face shocking blow

A special court convened in accordance with the Official Secrets Act made a significant decision on Monday, setting the date of October 17 for the indictment of former Prime Minister and PTI chief, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a cipher case.

In the preceding month, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had submitted a challan pertaining to the cipher case, implicating the PTI chairman and Vice Chairman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

The case proceedings were presided over by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, and they took place at Adiala Jail, governed by the Official Secrets Act of 2023. During today's court session, copies of the challan related to the case were distributed to the legal representatives of both the former prime minister and the former foreign minister, setting the stage for the impending indictment of the PTI leaders, scheduled for October 17.

The cipher case originated with the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on August 15, invoking the Official Secrets Act. This FIR was initiated based on a complaint from the Home Secretary.

Within the report, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were named as individuals of interest, while the report also referenced former Principal Secretary Azam Khan and former Planning Minister Asad Umar.
