New technology developed by Urology Department in BBH:

RAWALPINDI: The latest technique of removing kidney stones with the help of Lithotripters has been successfully used in Benazir Bhutto General Hospital BBH).

BBH administration on successful outcome of the modern technique has announced to hold an international conference with the cooperation of Rawalpindi Medical University in December this year.

Talking to APP, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed the head of Urology said the conference to be held in Islamabad where more than 40 leading Urologists and experts around the world will participate and would be informed about the technique used for removal of kidney stones. He said latest endoscopy method for removing large kidney stones has been used by doctors.

Under the technique an opening equal to a common pin’s head is made in the kidney to break the stone inside. He said there is no need to perform major surgery for removal of stones in the kidney.

The modern method has facilitated by making 1.5mm, 4mm, 6mm and 8mm holes to remove kidney stones no matter of size, and the patient is discharged after 24 hours, he said.

The treatment for removing kidney stone is very expensive in private hospitals but BBH has managed to provide this treatment free of cost. The hospital has developed this expertise with their own resources and without.

According to this treatment, thousands of patients coming from Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Karachi, Quetta and abroad would get free treatment. Dr Mumtaz said to avoid kidney disease blood pressure, sugar must be controlled beside prevent increase in Uric acid level in the body.
