In Washington, a US military MQ-9 drone was reportedly shot down by Yemen's Houthis, as confirmed by two US officials and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
While previous instances of Houthi-downed drones have occurred, this incident adds to the heightened tension in the region, particularly during the Israel-Hamas war.
The US officials, requesting anonymity, disclosed that the General Atomics drone was brought down off the Yemeni coast, without specifying if it occurred in international airspace.
A Houthi military spokesperson claimed responsibility, stating that they shot down the drone over Yemeni territorial waters in their official statement.
