Afghanistan peace talks kick off in Russia, high level Pakistani delegation in attendance

ISLAMABAD - The second round of the Moscow format consultations on Afghanistan kicked off in Moscow on Friday.

Addressing participants at the conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the meeting is meant to seek paths to national reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Delegations from twelve countries are participating in the conference.

A high-level Pakistani delegation led by Additional Secretary is also present at the gathering.

The meeting marks the first time the Taliban and Afghan government meet for direct talks at a high level.

United States, China, Iran, India, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are among other participants.
