Punjab Police Shuhada Fund worth Millions embezzled: NAB Report

LAHORE - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore apprehended former District Police Officer (DPO) Gujrat Kamran Mumtaz following the allegations of embezzlement in the funds of DPO office Gujrat. According to the NAB spokesman, the said accused remained posted as DPO Gujrat during 2015 and 2016, whereas, Rs 550 million (approx) were embezzled during this period collectively. Furthermore, Rs 60 million were allegedly misappropriated by submitting different bogus bills at the same time. During the course of inquiry conducted by NAB Lahore officials, it was unearthed that during 2014 to 2016, in the wake of cases' investigation cost, petrol expenses, pay and allowances funds and Shuhada funds etc. a hefty amount to the tune of Rs 180 (approx) got embezzled. Knowing that, NAB called accused Kamran Mumtaz back to Pakistan from abroad to keep the inquiry proceedings continue from the same. On November 30, 2018, NAB Lahore got arrested ten accused persons actively involved in the case including SSP Rai Ejaz from which investigations are underway on speedy track, whereas, during last month NAB Lahore Regional Board authorized to upgrade the ongoing inquiry into investigations level. NAB Lahore officials would produce former DPO Gujrat, accused Kamran Mumtaz, before an accountability court for seeking his physical remand to keep the investigations continued un-interrupted.
