A significant deposit of petroleum and natural gas has been discovered in Pakistan's territorial waters, which could potentially transform the country's future, according to a report by DawnNewsTV on Friday. A senior security official, familiar with the details of the discovery, disclosed that the find is of such magnitude that its development could alter the nation's trajectory.
The official revealed that a three-year survey, conducted in collaboration with a friendly nation, was carried out to confirm the presence of these valuable oil and gas reserves. This extensive geographic survey enabled Pakistan to pinpoint the exact location of the deposits. Relevant authorities have since informed the government about the discovery of these resources within Pakistani waters.
Referring to the initiative as part of the ‘blue water economy’, the official explained that proposals for bidding and exploration are currently under review. This indicates that exploration activities could commence in the near future. However, the official cautioned that the process of drilling wells and extracting the oil may take several years to complete.
The official also highlighted that the 'blue water economy' offers more than just oil and gas. In addition to these energy resources, there are other valuable minerals and elements within the ocean that could also be exploited for economic gain.
