The 4000 MW power evacuated through 660 KV HVDC Matiari-Lahore Transmission Line would be obtained from upcoming coal-based thermal power plants at Thar, Port Qasim and Hub, and it would be completed within 24 to 30 months.

National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) spokesman told APP here Wednesday that two HVDC 660 KV transmission lines from Matiari to Lahore and Port Qasim to Faisalabad were planned in the CPEC projects, and a cooperation agreement in this connection had also been signed between NTDC and State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC/CET). The HVDC projects would be executed in two phases under Government of Pakistan Transmission Policy-2015 on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, he maintained.

The spokesman said HVDC Matiari-Lahore Project would be carried out in first phase, adding the project scope would be HVDC 660 KV Transmission Line from Matiari to Lahore, approximate 878KM, with capacity of 4000 MW; two Convertor Stations with AC (Alternate Current) Switching Stations at Matiari and Lahore; Electrode Grounding Stations at Matiari and Lahore.
