After Afghanistan, another country hit with devastating earthquake of magnitude 7

After Afghanistan, another country has been devastated by an earthquake. Intense seismic shocks with a magnitude of 7 have been felt in the coastal country of Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean.

According to Chinese news agencies, the American Geological Survey has reported that severe earthquake tremors were felt in Papua New Guinea this week, registering a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake's epicenter was at a depth of 72 kilometers. On the other hand, in Afghanistan, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake has left over 2,000 people dead and thousands injured. Experts explain that the Earth's crust is formed from three major plates: the Eurasian, the Indian, and the Arabian plates.

When heat accumulates beneath the Earth's surface, these plates move, causing seismic activity. Earthquakes manifest as waves spreading in circular patterns and are more common in regions situated on the edges of these plates, where the plates interact or converge.
