SC declares appointment of Ataul Haq Qasmi null & void

The Supreme Court has declared appointment of Ata ul Haq Qasmi as Chairman Pakistan Television illegal.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Yahya Afridi announced the judgment, reserved on February 26 this year.
The verdict said that the rules were not followed in appointment of Ataul Haq Qasmi as Chairman PTV.
The Court ordered that all the administrative orders passed by Ata ul Haq Qasmi as Chairman PTV were also illegal and without any lawful authority. The court ordered for recovery of over 190.7 million rupees paid to Ataul Haq Qasmi as salary and privileges.
It said the amount should be recovered from former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Former Information Minister Pervez Rasheed and former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Fawad Hassan Fawwad for being responsible for the illegal appointment.
The Court also directed the federal government to appoint a regular Managing Director PTV.
