India claims membership of Missile Technology Control Regime

NEW DELHI: Indian diplomats claimed members of Missile Technology Control Regime have agreed for India to join the MTCR.
Diplomats claimed that India applied for membership last year and the deadline to object India’s admission expired on Monday which was not objected by any member of the group that means that the procedure has been followed automatically.
As per report, ‘The Hague Code of Conduct against ballistic missile proliferation is compulsory for the MTCR which was subscribed by India earlier.
Earlier, Italy opposed India’s membership in MTCR due to a bilateral dispute that was resolved.
A US Congress official claimed that the main objection was Italian veto over the arrest of Italian marine, who killed 2 Indian fishermen during an anti-piracy operation in 2012, who has been released now.
Modi is on three days visit of US where he met with US President Barack Obama and will also address a joint session of Congress.
Obama strongly supported India’s membership into MTCR and NSG.
