IOK: 3 martyred in Indian troops' indiscriminate firing

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, three civilians including a teenage girl were martyred in indiscriminate firing by the Indian troops on peaceful protesters in Kulgam district, today (Saturday).

According to Kashmir Media Service, people took to the streets in Redwani area of the district and staged massive demonstrations after Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation in area.  

The troops resorted to indiscriminate firing of bullets, pellets and teargas shells on the protesters injuring of several others.

Later, thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of the martyred civilians amid high-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

On the other hand, the second martyrdom anniversary of the prominent Kashmiri youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani will be observed, tomorrow with the reaffirmation of the Kashmiris’ resolve to take the ongoing freedom movement to it its logical conclusion at all costs.

Call for the observance of the day has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

The Hurriyat leadership has also asked the people to observe complete shutdown and march towards Tral town, the native area of Burhan Wani, where a public meeting will be held to pay tributes to him and other martyrs of the 2016 mass uprising triggered by his extrajudicial killing.

Burhan Wani was killed along with his two associates by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on 8th July in 2016.

The occupation authorities imposed curfew in Tral town, today, by deploying Indian troops and police personnel in strength to forestall the march.

The authorities have also put several Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Muhammad Yasin Malik under house detention or in custody to stop them from leading the march.

Meanwhile, normal life was crippled, today, in response to the shutdown called by the Joint Resistance Leadership against the shifting of illegally detained Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson Aasiya Andrabi and her associates from Srinagar Central Jail to New Delhi by India’s National Investigation Agency.
