22 devotees drown as two boats capsize after collision near thattha

THATTHA: As many as 22 people drowned when two boats capsized after their collision in the sea near Bohara, Thattha on Thursday.

However, 20 people were rescued.

The boats carrying 60 devotees were going to Mayo Pathai shrine to participate in the Urs celebrations.

Eleven bodies have been identified. The deceased include Shahnaz, mehnaz, Shabana, Nazia, Karamun Nisa, Yasir Jokhyo, Ali Jokhyo, Maqsood, Abu Bakr, Ahmed Ali and others.

The devotees hailed from Karachi’s different areas, including Ibrahim Hyderi, Main Goth and Thattha.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the accident and ordered the Hyderabad commissioner to expedite the rescue operation.

The Thattha DC said that the boats capsized due to wind.
