BEIJING – India irked over China for no mention of Pakistan, JeM or Pulwamain Chinese Foreign Minister annual presser, it has been revealed.
Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi in his annual presser on Friday made nomention Pakistan support to terrorism while calling India and Pakistan toexercise “calm, restraint and prevent an escalation and resolve the matterthrough dialogue.”
Wang Yi said, “China has played a constructive role and both India andPakistan have indicated the desire to de-escalate and we welcome this.”Theforeign minister also did not make any comments on the listing ofJaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar under the UN terror list.
The development comes in the backdrop of India-Pakistan tensions last weekwhich escalated rapidly leading to Pakistan launching strikes on Indianmilitary installations.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou was on Pakistan visit from 5thto 6th March.C alling 2018 as a year of “great significance for China Indiarelations” Wang Yi said cooperation between the two countries should “surgeahead like Ganga and the Yangtze giving a strong and sustained impetus toour relationship.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping both met 4times in 2018 starting with the famous Wuhan informal summit in April tothe last meeting on the sidelines of G20 summit in Argentina.
Wang Yi said, “Over the past year govt departments on both sides have donea lot and made considerable progress in following through on many of theunderstandings reached between our leaders.
The priority now is that strategic understanding of our leaders tricklesdown to our common people”.
