Operation Nusrat : Afghanistan Army to launch New counter terrorism operation

KABUL – Afghanistan’s *Senior security and defense officials finalized theplan for the new year’s military operation – titled ‘Operation Nusrat’.*

After three days of consultations, the plan was finalized for operations inthe new solar year, which starts on March 21, TOLO News has reported.

At a meeting with officials on Thursday, President Ashraf Ghani directedrelevant agencies to ensure the safety of development projects as accordingto him people’s welfare is connected with the implementation of theseprojects.

He asked security and defense officials to evaluate this year’s operation -‘Operation Khalid’ – and to implement ‘Operation Nusrat’.

“As we discussed, we hope that the lessons learned from Operation Khalidwill be implemented in Operation Nusrat,” Ghani said.

The president said no one will be allowed to interfere in security forces’affairs.

“Any contact with the Taliban, gives the Taliban the facility to improvetheir cooperation and contact with foreign terrorist groups,” Ghani’sNational Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar said.

One politician and an MP meanwhile said there is still a lack ofcoordination among security force members in military operations againstinsurgents.

“The new strategy of the United States is to the detriment of Taliban andHaqqani network if it is continued,” said Mohammad Nateqi, deputy head ofIslamic Solidarity Party of Afghanistan.
