ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday formed a commission to investigate allegations made by PTI lawyers regarding their denial of entry into Adiala Jail. The court's decision followed a petition submitted by the legal team of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Imran Khan's lawyers argued that being denied access to him infringed on his fundamental right to legal representation, regardless of whether the trial was being conducted inside the jail. The IHC recognized these concerns as a serious issue, emphasizing that it affects the right to justice.
The court highlighted the conflicting claims made by jail authorities and the legal team, making an impartial investigation necessary to ensure fairness. In a written judgment, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan stressed the need for the judiciary to appoint its "eyes and ears" to conduct an independent review of the matter.
The commission, consisting of three lawyers – Zopash Khan, Mubeen Awan, and Zohaib Gondal – has been assigned to monitor the situation.
Each member of the commission will visit Adiala Jail on court hearing days to ensure the lawyers are granted proper access.
