Pakistan re-elected to UN body on international postal service

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Pakistan has been re-elected to the Council of Administration (CA) in the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the main decision making body of the United Nations specialized agency responsible for the development and cooperation of International Postal Service.

Elections for the Council of Administration were held on October 5, 2016 during the 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union that is being held in Istanbul from September 20 to October 07, 2016, a foreign office statement issued here on

Friday said.

Pakistan has been an active member of the UPU since 1947 and has played a key role in the development and improving the International postal system.

UPU is the international body based in Bern, Switzerland that establishes the rules for international mail exchanges among its member countries and makes recommendations to modernize products and services, stimulate mail volume growth and improve the quality of service for customers.

The re-election of Pakistan in the 41 member Council of Administration is a manifestation of Pakistan's contribution to the Universal Postal Union, the statement added.
