ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought a reply from the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) on recommendations submitted by an inquiry commission formed to probe utilization of the foreign aid received in the wake of the 2005 earthquake, in Balakot.
A two-judge SC bench headed by Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, the additional attorney general informed the bench that the inquiry commission had submitted seven recommendations. According to the commission's report there was lack of coordination between the local administration and ERRA, and consequently a wrong site was chosen for the construction of new Balakot city.
The foreign aid for rehabilitation of the city was spent on other projects instead of reconstructing the city which was illegal, he added.
Justice Ejaz asked the counsel for ERRA as to whether he had gone through the report. To which, the lawyer gave his response in negative and sought time to submit the reply on the inquiry report.
The bench while granting one week time to the counsel to submit ERRA's reply, adjourned the case.
