Bolton threatens sanctions against foreign financial institutions helping Maduro gov't

The United States will impose sanctions on foreign financial institutions that benefit Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his administration.

In a statement, U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said the United States is looking at new measures to tighten grip on Maduro's financial wherewithal to deny his regime.

Meanwhile, Venezuela has ordered the expulsion of Germany's ambassador over his backing of opposition leader Juan Guaido in a political struggle with President Nicolas Maduro.

The Foreign Ministry said Berlin's ambassador, Martin Kriener, had 48 hours to leave the country for interference in Venezuela's internal affairs.
