Supreme Court responds over Malik Riaz's Request

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) Thursday directed real estate tycoon Malik Riaz to submit written apology in a contempt of court proceedings within two weeks.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the petition.

Malik Riaz accused former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his son Dr Arsalan Iftikhar, of financial wrongdoings during a press conference in 2012.

During course of proceedings, Dr Basit counsel for Malik Riaz tendered oral unconditional apology on behalf of his client, and informed the court that his client, currently, is out of country for medical treatment.

He apprised that his client is suffering from a cancer disease and submitted a medical certificate to second his stance.

He also pleaded the court for a 12-week adjournment of the case hearing as his client is in London for six to eight weeks for medical treatment as proposed by his doctors. Subsequently, the court adjourned the case.
