KABUL – At least ten Afghan policemen were killed or wounded in an ambushby the Taliban militants in southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan.
The local officials are saying that the incident took place earlier todayin the vicinity of Waghez district, Khaama Press has reported.
A spokesman for the provincial government Arif Noori said a group of armedinsurgents ambushed the police forces in Waghez district earlier today,sparking clashes between the two sides.
He said at least four policemen, including a commander of the PoliceSpecial Forces, were killed and at least six others were wounded during theclashes.
Noori further added that the six Taliban militants were also killed and atleast seven others sustained injuries after the Afghan forces responded tothe ambush of the Taliban militants.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants havenot commented regarding the incident so far.
Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces in southeastern parts ofthe country but the security situation of the province has deterioratedsharply during the recent months.
The Taliban militants are active in some remote districts of the provinceand frequently attempt to carry out attacks with an aim to destabilize andexpand their foothold in this province.
