In Karachi, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration has implemented modern Australian technology at Jinnah International Airport, as reported by ARY News on Wednesday. Their primary objective is to enhance border security and counter the use of counterfeit visas in the context of human trafficking. This technological upgrade equips the FIA immigration department with cutting-edge tools.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has generously provided the FIA Immigration with 17 pieces of advanced equipment, including Magnifiers, Ultraviolet Radiation Lights, and Security Laminate Verifiers. These tools are instrumental in the fight against counterfeit passports and visas, ensuring a more stringent screening process for travelers. This move aims to fortify airport security significantly.
Muhammad Rashid Bhatti, the Assistant Director of FIA Immigration, expressed deep appreciation for the valuable equipment received. He acknowledged that these technological advancements would play a pivotal role in bolstering border security and combating illegal activities at the airport.
Prior to this initiative, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) made a decision to install Electronic gates (E-gates) at airports throughout the country. The first phase of the E-gate project has been launched in three major international airports: Islamabad, Allama Iqbal, and Jinnah International Airport. This project is under the close supervision of the Aviation Secretary and the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority (DGCAA).
Moreover, valuable input has been sought from various national institutions, including the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) passports, and FIA immigration, concerning the E-gate project. Following board approval, tenders will be solicited for the implementation of the E-gate project, marking a significant step forward in enhancing airport security across Pakistan.
