Pakistan faces a setback over the Polio eradication front

KARACHI - Three new polio cases have been reported in the country, health officials reveal.

The cases have been identified in Sindh’s Karachi, Balochistan’s Jafarabad and KPK’s Torghar.

One of the children has been identified as 16-month-old Hasheen, resident of Karachi. According to health officials, around seven new cases of polio are reported in Sindh with four from Karachi.

In this year alone, number of polio cases reported in Pakistan has reached 72 with 8 from Sindh, 53 from KPK, 6 from Balochistan and 5 from Punjab.

Pakistan is among three countries in the world, including Afghanistan and Nigeria, which is still fighting to tackle polio virus.

The country also remains under a polio-linked travel restriction imposed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
