Ex US Security Advisor discusses Afghan security situation with NSA

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Former Security Advisor of USA Stephan Hadley accompanied by William Taylor and Andrew Wilder from United States Institute of Peace (USIP) called on National Security Advisor Lt Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua here Thursday.

Matters concerning regional security, stability and current situation in Afghanistan came under discussion during the meeting, said a press release.

In context of reviewing US policy for Afghanistan under new administration, the members of USIP sought NSA's perspective toward ongoing situation in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan was discussed at length, NSA dilated upon situation in Afghanistan including the process of reconciliation.

He apprised that this is one conflict that has not even concluded yet the forces have already been drawn down which has not only weakened Afghanistan's military capacity but has ushered us into a stalemate.

NSA suggested that the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (US, China, Pakistan and Afghanistan) needs to be reactivated with the resolve to help the process of reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Peace and stability in Afghanistan would serve Pakistan and everyone in the region and world.

Cooperative framework between Afghanistan and Pakistan in multiple areas including political, diplomatic, military and intelligence and people to people contacts would be helpful to improve situation in Afghanistan.
