Pakistan Army to acquire FD 2000 long range Air Defence Missile System: Sources

RAWALPINDI – Pakistan is considering to procure FD-2000, long-range airdefense missiles from China.

The news has surfaced after the Russian News Agency TASS, while citing anofficial of Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP), reported thatPakistan is mulling over the feasibility of procuring three to four FD-2000long-range SAM systems to meet its long-range air defense requirements.

According to the media reports, FD-2000 has a maximum engagement range of125 km. It is an export variant of the HQ-9 – the People’s LiberationArmy’s (PLA) new generation primary long-range SAM system on sea and land.

The long SAM has a semi-active radar-homing (SARH) seeker, a reaction timeof 15 seconds, and a maximum speed of Mach 4.2.——————————

Furthermore, Pakistan Army has reportedly taken delivery of the earlierprocured nine LY-80 systems. Notably, Pakistan Army had formally inductedLY-80 in March 2017. According to TASS, the said systems are operationalnow.

Along with expanding its air defense coverage, Pakistan seems to beimproving its short-range air defense (VSHORAD) capabilities as well.

TASS also maintained, while citing an official of Pakistan Ministry ofDefense, that the country inducted 200 QW-18-man-portable air defense(MANPAD) launchers from China. Moreover, it is working on the manufactureof QW-18 domestically under license.
