Supreme Court hints at judgement against Ishaq Dar in absentia

*ISLAMABAD – The chief justice of Pakistan has hinted at judgement againstformer finance minister Ishaq Dar in absentia.*

*SC remarked Thursday that if Ishaq Dar does not come back to Pakistan,then the court will announce its verdict against him.*

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, took up thehearing of a case against former finance minister for owning assets beyondknown means of income.

On the onset of hearing, the Attorney General informed the court about thetwo ways of bringing an absconder back to the country. First, employingInterpol to bring back Dar and second is to have a contract of exchangingthe accused in any criminal offense with the respective country.

The new government is working on the second option, he apprised the apexcourt.

While granting a period of 10 more days on the requisition of the AttorneyGeneral, the top judge observed that the Supreme Court will announce theverdict against Dar in absentia, if the accused does not show up.

The bench member Justice Ejazul Ahsan, displeased with NationalAccountability Bureau’s performance, said that the anti-graft watchdog hadnot taken any effective measures yet.
