SC Verdict on NAB Amendments Petition by Imran Khan

The verdict on a petition filed by Imran Khan, the PTI chief and former prime minister, challenging amendments in the NAB (National Accountability Bureau) law, has been reserved by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, has expressed his intention to deliver a concise and timely ruling, as he approaches his retirement.

The conclusion of the case's hearing was marked by this statement from CJP Bandial, who hinted at a swift resolution.

A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Bandial and including Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, presided over the final arguments in this matter. During the proceedings, Chief Justice Bandial commented on the withdrawal of references, indicating the direction in which the law appeared to lean. Furthermore, he mentioned the court's decision not to take suo motu notice, a practice it had engaged in previously.

The federal government's lawyer, Makhdoom Ali Khan, presented the argument that the NAB law had been endorsed by the Supreme Court in the past concerning military officers, but it remained silent regarding judges. He emphasized the lack of a proper forum for addressing complaints against retired judges, who continued to write judgments for six months after retirement.

He concluded by asserting the need for legislators to be accountable to the people, highlighting the ongoing debate over the NAB law's amendments
