Tusnami advisory issued after earthquake of magnitude 6.6

Japan has issued a tsunami advisory of approximately one meter for the islands situated off the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula. This advisory came in response to an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 that occurred around 11 a.m. near Torishima Island, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The earthquake's epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 550 kilometers (340 miles) south of Tokyo.

Tsunamis are immense waves generated by seismic activity or volcanic eruptions beneath the ocean's surface.

While these tsunami waves remain relatively low in height in the deep ocean, they gradually gain height as they approach and move inland, with ocean depth decreasing along the way.
