Punjab government reforms in irrigation sector

MULTAN: (APP) The Punjab government is spending over Rs 9.28 billion to improve the irrigation system across the province.
The Punjab Irrigated-Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project was in progress under a five-year scheme with an aim to enhance cultivation area and improve production.
Drip Irrigation, sprinkler system and laser land levellers were being introduced across the province, said Assistant Director Agriculture Information Naveed Asmat in a statement issued here.
He said the programme would enhance 4 per cent cultivation area and 13 per cent yield of crops.
The drip irrigation and sprinkler system had an ability to counter water shortage. The government was providing subsidy on installation of these system in almost all districts of South Punjab, he concluded.
