IMF makes new demands from the Pakistan government

The negotiations between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been revealed. According to sources, the IMF has put forth a demand to expand the taxpayer base. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has provided assurances to the visiting IMF team that they will meet the tax collection target of Rs 9,415 billion for the current year.
Additionally, the IMF has requested a progress report on pending tax cases from the FBR, which is expected to be submitted on Monday. Officials have reported that Pakistan has collected Rs 2,748 billion in the first four months of the ongoing fiscal year.
Furthermore, the IMF has asked for a plan outlining how the remaining Rs 6,670 billion will be collected by June 2024.
In their discussions, FBR officials made extensive efforts to persuade the visiting IMF review mission that they have the capability to achieve the desired revenue collection target of Rs 9.4 trillion by the end of June 2024.
