Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam said that in the match against New Zealand, he had stopped his partner Fakhar Zaman from attempting sixes aggressively. However, opening batsman Fakhar Zaman continued to play aggressive shots.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a special video after Pakistan's success against New Zealand, in which Captain Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman discussed their plans regarding the victory.
In the video, Fakhar Zaman expressed his satisfaction with playing against New Zealand, but he faced some anxiety when opener Abdullah Shafique got out because their plan was to accelerate in the second or third over.
Captain Babar Azam revealed that he had in mind that if Fakhar Zaman stands his ground, they will achieve the desired target comfortably because Fakhar consistently wins matches when he plays aggressively.
Babar Azam also mentioned that they initially planned to go for 20 overs, but the thought of rain never crossed their minds since the weather was clear. However, suddenly, clouds appeared, and they had to adjust their plans accordingly.
Fakhar Zaman began his innings even before Captain Babar, which prompted a lighthearted exchange about what Babar would say after each shot, with Fakhar asking, "What did you used to say after every shot?" Babar responded with a smile, "I used to say, 'Fakhar, it's alright, you hit one six, there's no issue. When you come into the area, make sure you strike, but not excessively,' and he kept hitting powerfully."
It's worth remembering that in an important World Cup 2023 match, Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 21 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) method.
