Pakistan fastest South Asian Country beating India and others in mobile internet speed

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan was placed ahead of fellow neighbours India and Bangladesh, as it secured the 112th spot in mobile broadband speed for September 2019, according to a report by broadband speed analysis firm Ookla.

Ookla in its latest report link ‘Exploring Recent Trends in the India Telecom Market' found Pakistan's mobile net speed among the fastest in South Asia, with mobile download speed of 14.38 Mbps. Meanwhile, neighboring country India was placed on 128th spot with mobile download speed of 11.18 Mbps for September.

“Mobile download speeds were relatively flat in India, fluctuating between 10.63 Mbps and 11.18 Mbps during Q2-Q3 2019. Regionally, India's mobile performance is marginally faster than Bangladesh's, which saw average speeds max out at 10.43 Mbps, and somewhat slower than Pakistan's top speeds of 15.55 Mbps," read the report.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka led the South Asian countries at 81st spot in mobile network with a download speed of 22.53 mbps and upload speed of 10.59 mbps.

However, although India lagged in mobile net speed, it made up for it in the fixed broadband download with the speed of 34.07 Mbps in September, far higher than as compared to Pakistan and Bangladesh in the second and the third quarter of 2019.

“Mean fixed broadband download speeds in India rose 16.5pc during Q2-Q3 2019 and topped 34.07 Mbps in September. Compared to Bangladesh, which saw a similar rate of improvement but lower speeds at 24.02 Mbps, and Pakistan, where speeds stayed relatively flat between 8.54 and 9.14 Mbps, India is the regional leader in mean download speed," stated the report.
