CPEC and the Pak-China Friendship

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday informed that the Chinese Government was keen to complete China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on priorities was taking measures in this regard.

Briefing a meeting of Special Committee on CPEC here, the minister said that under the project, the Chinese government would invest US $46 billion out of which an amount of $35 billion would be spent on the energy projects in the country.

He said that in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, energy projects worth of $11.3 billion and $9.1 billion respectively would be initiated.

Ahsan Iqbal informed that in Gwadar city, 300 MW power projects would be launched. Work on the Western Route of CPEC project was going on rapidly, he added.

The Committee was presided over by Senator Mushahid Hussain while it was attended by Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and members of the committee.

Iqbal Ahsan further informed the committee that the mega project would be proved as a game changer for Pakistan which would provide large number of employment opportunities in the country.

He said an international standard airport would be established under the project.

"The two mega power projects, Diamir Bhasha Dam and Dasu Dam are also included in CPEC on which $14 billion and $12 billion respectively would be spent", Ahsan Iqbal informed.

He said Gwadar sea port would be proved as a gateway where there would be activities of international trade.
