National Food Security Policy to be approved by federal cabinet soon: Bosan

Minister for National Food Security, Sikandar Hayat Bosan says the National Food Security Policy will be approved by the federal cabinet soon.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, he clarified that the provincial governments are responsible for sugar prices as the 'Sugar Control Act' comes under the provincial governments' domain.
He said the federal government provides subsidy on production and export of sugar and not the sugarcane. He added that the Sindh government is improperly blaming federal government on this issue.
He said the provincial governments to show farmer-friendly attitude by ensuring monitoring of sugarcane purchase and fulfilling commitment of 180 rupees per maund of the sugarcane.
Sikandar Hayat Bosan said he will contact all the Chief Ministers to solve the issue for providing relief to farmers.
He said the production of sugarcane this year was 85 million tons. He added that the requirement of sugar was 5.3 million tons while the production this year was recorded 7 million tons.
The Minister added that the expected production of sugar is 7.5 million tons.
He said the government has allowed export of 1.5 million tons of sugar through ECC while the Trading Corporation of Pakistan will also purchase 3 million tons of sugar from the sugar mills.
