China has firmly opposed the United States' new nuclear weapons policy statement, describing its speculation about Chinese intentions as "wild guesses".
China's Defence Ministry spokesman Ren Guoqiang said in a statement in Beijing on Sunday that the report exaggerates the threat of China's nuclear force.
Meanwhile, Iran has severely criticized the United States for review of its nuclear policy and outlining plans to expand its nuclear capabilities against its rivals.
In a speech on Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, on one hand the United States is calling the use of weapons of mass destruction as a crime against humanity while on the other hand it is threatening its rivals with a new atomic weapon.
Earlier in a tweet, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that the U.S. policy document pose the risk of bringing humankind closer to annihilation. (Reuters, AFP)
