World's longest passenger flight takes off

Qatar Airways is operating the world’s longest scheduled passenger flight between Doha and Auckland on Sunday.

Qatar’s latest route has a flight time of 16 hours and 20 minutes. The 9,032 mile journey will begin at 5:10am from Doha (local time). The flight is scheduled to arrive in Auckland at 7:30am (local time) on Monday.

Operated by the carrier’s Boeing 777-200LR  Qatar Airways’ flight 920 will pass above Dubai, northern Oman, the south of India  as well as Sri Lanka. 

It will also the fly over the Indian Ocean and Western Australia before descending into Auckland. 

The return journey is expected to take more time. The trip costs $1,265 one-way for an economy seat while business class costs $4,500.
