President Obama demand for downsizing Nuclear stockpile irritates India

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama demanded for downsizing nuclear stockpile at Nuclear Security Summit irritated India.

Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup claimed that India’s nuclear arsenal is safe and secure and there is a lack of understanding between two countries.

He said “Yes, we have seen those remarks. There seems to be lack of understanding of India’s defence posture.

Conventionally, India has never initiated military action against any neighbour. We also have a no first use nuclear weapons policy. “

“Since the context was the Nuclear Security Summit, the president’s own remarks that ‘expanding nuclear arsenals in some countries, with more small tactical nuclear weapons which should be at greater risk of theft’ sums up the focus of global concern,” he added.

The statement came after four days of nuclear security summit in which Obama pushed Pakistan and India to decrease their stockpile to ensure the safety of the world.

Obama claimed that its not easy to reduce nuclear arsenal at vast level but US and Russia are ready to lead the way and Pakistan and India should have to ensure that their military doctrine is not moving in a wrong direction.
