Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar burst into laughter in the courtroom at Lahore High Court over the statement regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's President Pervez Elahi.
Despite the court's orders, regarding the arrest of former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, related to the hearing, the court said to conduct an inquiry, and they are issuing notices to IG Punjab.
IG Punjab responded, "Do not issue notices, just let it pass for now, Lahore High Court said, first issue the notices, then there will be action and punishment." Advocate General Punjab suggested that an opportunity be given to inquire and report to the court.
The court inquired, "Don't you know where Pervez Elahi is?" To which Advocate General Punjab explained that Pervez Elahi is not under the jurisdiction of any authority or department in Punjab.
Lahore High Court once again inquired, "Police also doesn't know where Pervez Elahi is?" In response, IG Punjab Usman Anwar stated, "Even we don't know where he is," leading to laughter in the court.
Sardar Latif Khosa also appeared in court and stated that this court has the power to give orders in any province; this was the plan from the beginning. Latif Khosa mentioned that Deputy IG Operations came down from the police van and also brought me down. Such a violation of a court order has not been seen in 50 years of legal practice.
Lahore High Court ordered Session Judge Attock to recover Pervez Elahi from Attock Jail and present him in court on September 8 and also issued a contempt of court notice to the IG Islamabad.
