In Lahore, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has taken the decision to absolve Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar of charges in five terrorism cases connected to the May 9 riots, during which military installations were targeted. This development was reported by ARY News on a Saturday.
During the court proceedings, the investigation officer (IO) stated that Asad Umar is no longer a suspect in the five terrorism cases. Asad Umar had been implicated in three cases that were filed at Sarwar Road police station and one each at Race Course and Gulberg police stations in Lahore.
Specifically, these cases were recorded as Case No. 852/23 in Race Course, Case No. 1283/23 in Gulberg, and Case No. 97/23, 103/23, and 108/23 at Sarwar Road Police station.
However, it's worth noting that the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected Asad Umar's interim bail petition due to his failure to provide the required surety bonds in connection with the May 9 violence cases. In a previous hearing, the court had ordered Asad Umar to deposit surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.
One of these cases, Case No. 97/23, was registered against Asad Umar and other PTI leaders at Sarwar Road police station in Lahore for delivering a speech against state institutions at Sherpao bridge within the city.
