PIA flight halted at airport for embarrassing reason

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has provided clarification that the flight originally halted in Canada has been given permission to resume its journey following the airline's settlement of its outstanding payments for fuel and ground handling.

Earlier in the day, reports had surfaced that flight PK-790, scheduled to travel from Toronto to Canada, experienced a four-hour delay due to demands from a ground handling and fuel company for unpaid dues totaling $200,000.

This delay was reported to have also affected the boarding process for passengers. According to a statement from PIA, the airline encountered difficulties in making the payment because the issue arose during nighttime hours in Pakistan.

Nevertheless, the airline successfully resolved the payment, allowing the flight to continue. A statement from Swissport, the company responsible for handling operations at Toronto airport, had indicated that PIA owed the company more than $280,000 and had repeatedly requested payment from the airline.

Additionally, the company had announced its intention to place PIA on a prepayment arrangement and cease services starting from October 3.
