Two civilians, including a 12-year-old, lost their lives in an incident of indiscriminate firing by Afghan forces directed at the civilian population near an outbound checkpoint along the Pak-Afghan border in Balochistan, as confirmed by the deputy commissioner of Chaman.
The bodies of the child and the elderly pedestrian were subsequently transported to the District Headquarters Hospital and later returned to their respective families. The deputy commissioner of Chaman also mentioned that security forces were placed on high alert, yet no exchange of gunfire occurred between them.
He further stated that there is currently a ceasefire in effect, with the border crossing open at the Friendship Gate. Nevertheless, pedestrian movement was briefly halted. The officials have reported this incident to higher authorities and plan to discuss it with the interim Afghan Government.
