In a significant revelation that deals another blow to the Imran Khan-led party, Usman Dar, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has asserted that the May 9 riots, during which PTI workers vandalized state facilities and led to the former prime minister's arrest, were a deliberate effort to remove the army chief from his position.
Dar also announced his resignation from the party while presenting a "charge sheet" against PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He disclosed during an interview on a private TV channel that these events were premeditated in a meeting held at the former prime minister's Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
Dar had been missing for about a month, and his reappearance prompted his brother-in-law to file a petition in the Sindh High Court, which directed the police to register a case regarding his disappearance. Now, as a former PTI leader, Dar is attributing responsibility to the party's leadership for orchestrating the May 9 incidents.
He claims that Imran Khan himself presided over the meeting where the "plan of action" was decided in case of his arrest, instructing the party to target sensitive installations. Imran Khan is currently in jail, having been arrested on May 9 in a corruption case, and subsequently imprisoned again in the 'cipher' case.
