World Cup trophy reaches Lahore

LAHORE: ICC cricket World Cup trophy 2019 landed in Pakistan here on Wednesday as part of its global journey.
The trophy arrived in Lahore along with the ICC representative Shamroon Abbasi.Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan held the World Cup trophy and took it to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital from Gaddafi Stadium on a double-decker bus.
The most coveted prize will be displayed tomorrow, Thursday at Government College University, Wagha Border and Shaukat Khanum hospital.
It will be exhibited in Islamabad on October 5 and in Rawalpindi on October 6.
The final stop of the trophy will be Karachi. It will be put on display at the National Stadium Karachi on October 7. It will be taken to Mohatta Palace and Frere Hall as well.
The World Cup trophy journey kicked off in Dubai from ICC headquarters on Monday, August 27.
Mohammad Irfan during the trophy tour in Lahore told the media that it is an honor for him to hold the coveted trophy of the World's biggest cricketing event.
"I am delighted to hold the World Cup’s trophy," Irfan said who hopes for an early comeback in the National side.
It is important to mention here that the official picture of the glittering trophy will be taken at Wagah Border Lahore.
The trophy will tour Pakistan from October 3 to 13, it will stay in Lahore from October 3 to 5.
Then it will be taken to Islamabad where it will be showcased on October 5 and 6.
In the final phase, the trophy will be taken to Karachi for the exhibition at the National Stadium for two days- October 7 and 8.
According to a statement by ICC, the trophy will be 'Travelling across five continents, 21 countries, and over 60 cities.
This will happen for the first time that the trophy will travel not only to countries taking part in the tournament but also will go beyond traditional cricket places to further 11 countries where cricket is growing including Nepal, USA, and Germany.
During the nine-month tour, the trophy will be taken to 11 more countries such as Nepal, Germany and the USA, who are not a part of the tournament. This is happening for the first time to connect with cricket fans across the globe.
The trophy will travel to Oman, the USA, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Nigeria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
The cricket World Cup will kick off on May 30, 2019.
