German-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to be established: German Ambassador

KARACHI (APP): Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has called for enhanced economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and Germany.

He was speaking as chief guest at a reception hosted on Monday night by the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Karachi, Rainer Schmiedchen, to mark the Day of German Unity.

Murad said that the reunification of Germany and the fall of Berlin Wall is one of the greatest events in modern history which inspires tremendous faith and hope in human capability.

He further stated that Pakistan was keen to enhance bilateral contacts, trade and cooperation in defence, counter terrorism, renewable energy, information technology and automotive industry.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the Sindh was an investor friendly province of Pakistan and would welcome increased German investments especially in renewable energy and automotive industry.

He said that there was immense potential in wind power, coal reserves and infrastructure which the German companies can tap for the mutual advantage.

Murad also stated that Pakistan is committed to fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

He further pointed out that under the National Action Plan (NAP) and `Zarb-e-Azb', we have registered a remarkable success against terrorism. The successful operation in Sindh by the law enforcement agencies against miscreant elements has restored the confidence of the people.

Chief Minister Sindh stated that Pakistan has one of the largest students communities in Germany with about 3,500 students.

In his welcome address, the German Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen also spoke of the holding of German weeks in Karachi. A series of German events will be presented in Karachi during the months of October, November and December this year.

He also mentioned the setting up of the German-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) which will help further enhance the commercial ties between the two countries.

Earlier, at the commencement of the event the national anthems of Germany and Pakistan were played and a cake-cutting ceremony was also held.

The reception was also attended by Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, prominent people from various walks of life and members of the diplomatic corps.
