Former Pakistan captain and star all-rounder Shahid Afridi met with Chairman of the PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. During this meeting, Mr. Zaka Ashraf acknowledged Shahid Afridi's dedication and contributions to the game.
He praised Afridi's role as a hero of Pakistan, highlighting his exceptional talent on the field and his exemplary conduct off the field. Mr. Ashraf expressed the desire to utilize Afridi's experience for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.
Shahid Afridi, in response, expressed his keen interest in nurturing young cricketers and molding them into future stars who would represent Pakistan cricket with distinction. He also lauded Mr. Zaka Ashraf's efforts and contributions to Pakistan cricket.
This meeting took place amidst discussions in the media regarding the performance of the Pakistan cricket team and the selection process for the 2023 World Cup.
Notably, the PCB had initiated an investigation against former chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq due to allegations of a conflict of interest related to team selection, which were reported in the media. This investigation was announced shortly after Inzamam's resignation.
The PCB formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter, and it is expected to submit its report and recommendations to the PCB Management in a timely manner.
There were rumors suggesting that Inzamam-ul-Haq was accused of having a stake in a players' agent firm and that he had selected the World Cup 2023 squad with the firm's interests in mind.
