Mainz 05, a German football club, recently decided to terminate Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi's contract due to his social media posts related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The club issued a statement last Friday, announcing the termination of El Ghazi's contract based on "comments and posts from the player on social media."
This decision came after El Ghazi had previously been suspended for a now-deleted post about the conflict but was allowed to return to practice earlier in the week.
El Ghazi expressed his stance on social media, stating that he stands for peace and humanity, and he did not question Israel's right to exist.
However, the club ultimately terminated his contract, and German prosecutors had accused him of disturbing public peace and incitement to hatred through his social media posts.
