ATC gives another blow to PTI leadership

An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Saturday refused bail requests from former information minister Fawad Chaudhry and ex-foreign minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

"After hearing both parties," the judge denied Fawad's interim bail due to non-appearance. In cases related to the May 9 violence, Judge Abhar Gul also revoked Qureshi and Fawad's bail while citing non-compliance as the reason. These leaders had their bail applications dismissed under cases 366/23 and 367/23 registered at the Model Town police station.

On Friday, the ATC had rejected Qureshi's application for interim bail and exemption from court appearance in two cases registered against him at the Kahna police station. Qureshi's counsel, Ali Bukhari, had filed separate pleas requesting a day's exemption from court attendance, citing his client's current incarceration in the cypher case.

During the hearing, the prosecutor urged the court to reject Qureshi's bail plea, while Bukhari argued that his client was "not intentionally absent but had been sent to jail on court orders." Bukhari emphasized the need for an attendance exemption based on the complete circumstances.
