ISLAMABAD: (APP) Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid Wednesday said the Federal Cabinet had approved Pakistan Climate Change Act 2016 and it would be tabled in the upcoming session of Parliament.

Talking to reporters here, he said today was the important day because the cabinet also accorded its approval to the Paris agreement according to which all the countries across the globe committed to play their role for decreasing greenhouse gases.

It was also decided in Paris that developed countries would have to play maximum role in that regard as they were responsible for emission of the gases, he added.

Zahid Hamid said the upcoming Climate Change Conference would be held in Marrakesh from November 7 to 22 in which all member countries would present their reports regarding their responsibilities.

The government, he said, had also prepared its report in consultation with all the stakeholders, which was approved by the cabinet.

Under the proposed act, he said Pakistan Climate Change Authority would be consituted to perform functions assigned to it under the act and the rules and regulations made thereunder.

The authority would be a corporate body with perpetual succession and a common seal, he added.
